What is a double ferrule compression fitting?
Two-ferrule compression fittings also called double ferrule compression tube fitting is coupling method used to connect two pipes, instrumentation or valves. It consists of a compression nut, back ferrule, front ferrule and fitting body. The pipe slid through the nut and ferrules and the nut is tightened down, from the finger tight position the nut is rotated for 1-1/4 turn. The installation sequence is fitting body (seat), Front ferrule (big ferrule), Back ferrule (smaller one) and the compression nut. Front ferrule crates sealing against tubing outside diameter and the fitting body while the back ferrule axially pushes the front ferrule and applies a radial grip on the tube.
A common size range is between 1/16″ and 2″ for fractional sizes and between 2 and 50 mm for metric sizes).

How to install double ferrule fittings
1.Instert the tube into the fitting , making sure the end of the tube reaches the bottom of the fitting and finger-tighten the union out
2.Make a mark at the 6 o'clock position of the ferrule nut
3.Use a wrench to fix the joint body, and turn the ferrule nut one and a quater turns ,At this time , the mark is rotated 540 degrees to the 9 o'ock position
Precautions when you install double ferrule tube fittings
In the process of tightening the ferrule nut one and a quarter turns, the inside of the joint completes the following designed actions in turn.
Through the mechanical advance of the thread, the ferrule nut moves forward to push the rear ferrule forward, and at the same time, the rear ferrule pushes the front ferrule to move forward.
The tip of the connector body presses the front ferrule inward.
The front ferrule eliminates the tolerance between its inner diameter and the outer diameter of the tube.
With the advancement of the rear ferrule, the front ferrule moves forward and inward, and the rear end lifts up to form a seal with the inclined surface of the joint body.
With the larger deformation of the tube and the increase of the contact surface between the inclined surface of the body and the front ferrule, the greater resistance forces the rear ferrule to move inward, thereby forming a second firm support on the tube.
Tighten the ferrule nut one and a quarter turns, it advances 1/16inch (1.52mm), the joint is sealed, and the tube is tightly held.
