There are several different types of ball valves, including:
- Full Port Ball Valve: Also known as a full bore ball valve, it has an oversized ball that allows for minimal friction and pressure drop when fully open. It's often used when low flow resistance is critical.
- Reduced Port Ball Valve: Also called a standard port ball valve, it has a smaller ball and flow opening than a full port valve, which results in higher flow resistance.
- V-Port Ball Valve: These have a V-shaped ball orifice, which allows for better flow control and modulation compared to standard ball valves.
- Trunnion Ball Valve: Designed for high-pressure applications, trunnion ball valves have additional support for the ball, ensuring stability and reliability under extreme pressure.
- Floating Ball Valve: In a floating ball valve, the ball is not fixed in place, and it relies on the pressure of the fluid to maintain a seal. It's commonly used in low and medium-pressure applications.
- Three-Way Ball Valve: This type has three ports and can be used to divert, mix, or shut off the flow between different pipes.
- Top-Entry Ball Valve: In top-entry ball valves, the body can be disassembled from the top for maintenance or repair without removing the entire valve from the pipeline
- Side-Entry Ball Valve: These valves are typically less expensive and easier to install than top-entry valves but may require complete removal for maintenance.
- Cavity Filler Ball Valve: Used for applications where cavity fillers are required to prevent leakage through the body cavity, often in hazardous or toxic fluid services
- Metal Seated Ball Valve: These valves use metal seats to provide high-temperature and abrasive fluid resistance, suitable for severe service conditions.
- Soft Seated Ball Valve: Soft-seated ball valves use materials like PTFE, Teflon, or elastomers for the seats, providing a tight seal but with limitations on temperature and pressure.
- Cryogenic Ball Valve: Designed for low-temperature applications, these valves are capable of handling extremely cold fluids, such as those used in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry
- FinallyThe choice of ball valve type depends on the specific application and its requirements, such as pressure, temperature, flow control, and sealing needs.
