Six Core Components of Stainless Steel compression high Pressure Ball Valve

May 19, 2026

1. Valve Body

The valve body serves as the backbone of the entire valve. Unlike ordinary cast ball valves, stainless steel compression high-pressure ball valves adopt high-pressure impact forging technology. Its material density is far higher than castings, with the maximum test pressure reaching up to 150.0MPa.

Mainly made of 316L stainless steel, integrated forging eliminates internal defects such as porosity, shrinkage cavities and air holes, ensuring stable performance under PN16~PN63 and even higher pressure ratings.

Consistent material between valve body and pipeline avoids uneven stress distribution, so the valve will never deform even under seismic vibration or heavy external load. Forged valve body is a must for all high-pressure ball valves.

2. Ball Core

The ball core is the core component that distinguishes ball valves from other types of valves. It is precisely machined from 304/316L stainless steel with surface roughness controlled within Ra≤0.4μm.

The smooth inner flow channel minimizes fluid resistance and enables delivery of slurry medium containing solid particles. Equipped with a straight through hole, the ball core rotates 90° driven by the stem: fully open for smooth medium flow, fully closed for complete flow cut-off.

3. Valve Stem

Acting as the torque transmission core connecting handwheel and ball core, the valve stem adopts bottom-mounted blow-out proof structure. It can effectively prevent the stem from being pushed out by sudden internal medium pressure surges.

PTFE thrust washer is installed between stem and valve body, converting axial pressure into low-friction rotation force to reduce operating torque for easy opening and closing. High-end models are fitted with steel balls and springs for static electricity conduction, realizing fire-proof and anti-corrosion performance. Once the valve stem breaks, the whole valve will be scrapped.

4. Valve Seat

The valve seat determines the overall sealing performance of the valve. This valve is equipped with spring preloaded valve seat, in which disc springs continuously push the seat tightly against the ball core to achieve bidirectional sealing.

The spring can automatically compensate abrasion and wear of sealing surface to maintain stable metal sealing. The higher the working pressure, the tighter the sealing contact.

Multiple sealing materials are optional:

PTFE soft seal: applicable temperature -200℃ ~ 200℃

Carbon fiber reinforced PTFE: excellent pressure and temperature resistance

Hard alloy seal: high temperature resistance up to over 600℃

5. Valve Bonnet

The valve bonnet seals the upper part of valve body and compresses packing to prevent external leakage. It is designed with built-in mid-chamber automatic pressure relief function.

When internal cavity pressure exceeds the preset value, the outlet side valve seat retracts to release overpressure automatically and resets after pressure drops back to normal level. This design ensures safe operation even under extreme working conditions such as fire hazard.

6. Ferrule Connection Assembly

It is the exclusive structural feature of ferrule ball valves, consisting of 24° tapered connector, sharp-edged ferrule and compression nut.

Tightening the nut will make the ferrule deform and embed firmly into the outer wall of steel pipe, forming double sealing together with the tapered surface. This connection method requires no welding, improving installation and disassembly efficiency by over 80%.

Imported high-quality ferrules from Germany and South Korea support repeated use. For safety, it is recommended to replace new ferrules after 3 times of assembly & disassembly or 5 years of service to avoid leakage caused by stress relaxation.

General Summary

Stainless steel compression high pressure ball valves integrate six core advantages: forged valve body for high pressure resistance, precision ball core for fluid on-off control, blow-out proof stem for stable torque transmission, spring preloaded seat for reliable sealing, pressure relief bonnet for safety protection and ferrule assembly for weld-free quick connection.

All components cooperate perfectly to guarantee high safety and reliability under high-pressure working conditions. With superior comprehensive performance, this type of valve is widely applied in petroleum, natural gas, semiconductor, aerospace and other harsh industrial fields
